York Auction Centre had 677 head of stock forward including 253 Cattle, 286 Sheep and 138 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.
CATTLE
88 Continental Young Bulls sold to 490p/kg from S Bristow and to £3725.04 from R H Clarkson & Sons; to average 385.17p/kg.
20 Native Breed Young Bulls sold to 380p/kg G J Taylor and to £2785.53 also from G J Taylor; to average 357.50p/kg.
22 Black and White Young Bulls sold to 374p/kg from A E Guymer & Sons and to £2793.78 also from A E Guymer & Sons; to average 335.18p/kg.
21 Continental X Steers sold to 451p/kg from H Crossley & Sons and £3252.21 from R T Hudson & Son: to average 421.50p/kg.

A busy first fatstock market after the bank holiday today with 130 bulls, 95 clean and 28 OTM’s.
Cont. x Bulls sold to 490ppkg for a smart little Lim x from Steve Bristow to CC Superstore and the top grossing bull was presented by R H Clarkson weighing 816kgs at 457ppkg totalling £3725.04 selling to Worsley wholesale butchers. Another 8 bulls broke the £3000 barrier all being heavy Lim x and Charolais x, no deductions for weight through the live ring! Native x bulls sold to 380p/kg from G J Taylor and regularly around the 360-370pp/kg mark, and black and whites looked well sold once again topped by A E Guymer & Sons at 374p/kg.
95 clean cattle topped at £3085.29 for a thick Lim x weighing 702kgs selling to Woolley bros. Heifers topped at 472ppkg for a well finished Lim x from Wagstaff bros and steers sold to 451ppkg or £3063 for a smart Lim x from H Crossley & sons. Processing cattle looked as well sold as ever against the top end types with plenty dairy x BRBx heifers selling around the 400ppkg mark topping out at 421ppkg and £2718 from M Davison. The top grossing native was presented by Paddock Farm totalling 408p/kg. Steers and heifers today averaged 407 and 404ppkg respectively.
Otms sold to 360ppkg for a young lim x cow selling to J A Jewitt, and the top grossing cows were presented by J Black and the Kilby family coming to £2646, and £2533.32. A lim bull from C R Farnaby sold to £2804 to R Pearson and a consignment of dairy cows from T H Hobson sold to 270ppkg and £2311.

A very mixed show of 183 hoggs looked a better trade on the week topping at 449pp/kg to Kurpas meats for some nice beltex x from R A Dobson and £204/ head to Harry Bromwich family butchers, two more from the same home sold to £202 to the same buyer. The SQQ sat at 321.77 and over all averaged 314.37. 103 cull sheep sold to £300 for a tremendous beltex x ewe from R A Dobson to Yorkshire halal meats with 3 more pens all over the £200 barrier and mules sold to £160 from J Smith, all culls forward to average £165/ head.
