SHEEP

120 hoggs forward today with 6 buyers in attendance covering every outlet from the local high street butcher to the larger sheep processors. All types met a fast trade selling to record highs of 507ppkg for some super beltex x hoggs from R A Dobson, the Dobson family also took the top gross price today of £234 or 459ppkg for a smart 51kg beltex x hogg selling to Local butcher & mart supporter Harry Bromwich. Another 10 pens made from 420-498ppkg for the best and most shapely types and more commercial sorts regularly 370 to 418ppkg, the SQQ today sat at 401.19ppkg but it’s worth noting that only 49 head fell into this category with the majority of hoggs fitting into the 45-52kg bracket, which reflected in the overall average of 398ppkg. We also saw the first new season lamb today presented from M Kendra & sons selling to 407ppkg or £179 for a char x Suffolk. In the Cull section, 63 head sold to £176/ head for some strong texel x Suffolk’s from M Kendra & sons, a run of smart texel x beltex ewes sold well from H&B Beevers to £137, and mules sold to £130/ head for some strong, well fleshed scotch mule types from W & M Birkley, all ewes today to average £132/ head.
