Just a light show today with a few vendors being busy with land work yesterday, but some good consignments already entered for next week alongside our pedigree sale! Once again mainly smaller cattle forward today, but a ringside packed full of buyers and spectators ensured a good trade for all and all vendors returning home happy.

Two cow & calf outfits started the day from T & R Dent, with a 2017 born AA X cow and strong heifer calf at foot selling to £1390 and a slightly older BRB X cow with heifer calf at foot selling to £1440.

In the store cattle, the top steers today were presented by F Frankish and son which sold to £1595/ head for a pair of heavy, well fed Saler x. The top heifer was presented by L A Clappison for a lengthy home bred Limousin heifer selling to £1550. Consignments of grazing cattle were keenly sought after with several lots from 840-965 both for suckler and dairy bred types.

Calves

Some of the fiercest trade ever seen through the calf ring today! A consignment of fresh calves from Ben Rab started the sale with BRB X heifers selling to £258 and smaller BRB X bull calves selling to £245, native bull calves sold to £225 black and white bull calves stormed away to £150!

Some stronger, top-quality Limousin x calves from H L & T E Smith followed, with trade topping at £505 for a super 4-week-old bull calf, with other bulls in the consignment averaging £448, and a heifer calf from the same home sold to £450. Next up were the stirks, and a run of well reared BRB X bulls from Common Lane farm flew away to £650 to average just short of £600/ head, all vendors left the calf ring absolutely delighted!

Thank you to everyone who supported us today and we wish you a happy Easter from all at YAC.
