Calves

What a fantastic day trading here at YAC, with the pens and ringside absolutely packed with vendors new and old both local and from the neighbouring shires!

The day started with a quality run of calves and stirks, with regular vendors A Burgess topping the fresh calves with a super Limousin bull at £425, and a pair of twin heifers from the same home realising £320 a head all selling to regular mart supporter Steven Barnes. A super packet of 6-month-old BRB X heifers from I&A Broadhead sold to £640/ head to Alan Sykes and two well reared AAX heifers from new vendor R G Findlay sold to £660 a head to CR Simpson.

In the store ring, a large entry of cow & calf outfits started the sale, buyers from far and wide ensured an absolutely electric trade for all grades of cattle.

The top price cow & calf outfit today was presented by W M Massey which sold to £2240 for a 4-year-old BRB X first calver with her Limousin steer calf at foot selling to A W Turner of Lincolnshire, and 2 more outfits from the same home broke the £2000 barrier.

The first consignment from Maxwell Bros herd reduction comprising 10 stabiliser cows all with bull calves at foot sold to tops of £1920 for a 2018 born cow with her 2-month-old calf at foot, every cow & calf outfit from Maxwell Bros sold tremendously well to average over £1700/ outfit, another 10 with heifer calves at foot entered for next week, along with cows & calves from Peter Rhodes feed services. The trip from Atherton (Lancs) was well worth it for John Pendlebury who sold two smart angus cow & calf outfits to £1880 and £1700, and a super blonde cow with heifer calf from N T & J Barrett sold to £1750.

Two stock bulls sold to highs of £2450 for calogale Navara a 7-year-old Limousin bull from W Massey going to its new home at chop gate with Ben Cowling and a stabiliser bull from Maxwell Bros sold to £1620.

Store cattle looked more expensive on the week with buyers keenly bidding for all grades of cattle! steers sold to £1690 for a strong Lim x from J B Hornby, and a tremendous Limousin heifer from the same home sold to £1650. Other strong cattle both suckler and dairy x sold regularly around the £1500 mark from Brian Basham and J Foulston. A nice consignment of slightly smaller suckler bred heifers from A P & R A Dunn sold very well to highs of £1400 or 288ppkg and summering cattle sold to £1195 for a good run of Charolais from J W & J Paxton with more entered for next week. A few more bulls in this week all looked very well sold with a tremendous pen of Limousins from R Barnard topping at £1610, others in the consignment regularly over £1500 and a Charolais X bull from SE Shields sold to £1120.

Plenty cattle already entered for next week and more stores always wanted! Please call Edward or James to discuss your requirements.
