FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 109 head of stock through the market including 7 breeding cattle, 82 store cattle and 20 calves.

 

TOP PRICES

 

Calves sold to £1070 for a Charolais X bull calf from N P & G L Turnbull.

Breeding cattle sold to £1760 for a British Blue Cow with a Limousin X heifer calf at foot from G W Houlston & Sons.

Heifers sold to £2075 for a British Blue from B W & F K Rab.

Steers sold to £2130 for a Simmental X from J Foulston & Sons.

Bulls sold to £1745 for a Limousin X from Penwood Farm LLP.

 

 

 

A good show across all sections today with turning out cattle looking particularly dear! A nice show of stirks started the day, and although no fresh calves forward, every grade was fiercely bid for from weaned calves to yearlings topping at £1070/ head for a pair of Charolais bulls from N P & G L Turnbull. Heifers sold to £995/ head for a pair of nicely presented BRBx heifers from Martin Brown. A pair of well fed black and white bulls from D W & B Proctor sold to £750/ head and weaned AAX heifer calves sold to £695/ head from D V Lee. All stirks forward to average £815.56 for bulls and £786.36 for heifers!

 

In the big ring, a handful of breeding cattle sold to £1760 for a 6-year-old BRBx cow with Lim heifer Calf at foot from G W Houlston and Belted Galloway in calf cows from O Coope sold to £940/ head. Store cattle sold to £2130/ head for the Foulston family’s usual quality Simmentals, and other heavy cattle sold to tops of £2075 for a BRBx heifer from Ben Rab, other big sorts sold to £1995, and £1930 from F Sellars and J Foulston. Smaller cattle looked every bit as dear topping at 475ppkg for a nice Lim heifer from Jonathan Black, other grazing sorts sold to 470ppkg and 462ppkg from H & B Beevers and D Mitchell, with grazers selling to £1780 from D Mitchell for a Shapley black Limousin. Bulls sold to £1745 for a Lim x from T Hughes and a nice packet of smaller BRBx bulls sold to £1155/ head.
